This initiative, led by the state’s Transport Minister, is a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture in the region. The Kerala Corporation is the first in the state to undertake such a project independently. The mission, launched on April 28, aims to ensure food security across Kerala, particularly in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Objective Of Kerala Subhiksha Keralam

The Corporation Secretary, Binu Francis, shared insights during the launch event of the Subhiksha Keralam scheme, highlighting that this initiative is an extension of the previously launched Samrudhi scheme. The primary goal of the earlier scheme was to provide proper food facilities to people, and now, Subhiksha Keralam aims to expand upon this by cultivating tapioca on a larger scale. Under this new scheme, more land and workforce will be dedicated to planting tapioca, with the cultivation area expected to exceed 15 hectares, compared to the 5 hectares planned under the earlier scheme. This initiative will not only contribute to food security but also promote environmental sustainability, encouraging people to participate in making the Earth greener and healthier.

Benefits Of Subhiksha Keralam

Subhiksha Keralam offers several benefits aimed at enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Vegetable cultivation will be expanded across approximately 22 hectares, and around 80% of homesteads will be encouraged to participate in crop cultivation. Currently, 5.6% of the land within city boundaries is ready for cultivation, and authorities are actively identifying additional plots that can be utilized for planting a variety of crops.

The scheme also involves the support of about 20 agricultural cooperative societies in the city, all of which have committed to increasing their production. The collaboration among these societies is expected to significantly contribute to the success of the initiative. Additionally, the scheme aims to encourage large-scale farming by supporting these societies and promoting the cultivation of diverse crops, further enhancing the state's agricultural output and environmental sustainability.
