Odisha Urban Wage Employment Scheme Important Dates 

The Odisha Urban Employment Scheme will commence on 20th April, with the lockdown ending on 3rd May. The scheme will begin on 20th April, and social distancing measures will be enforced alongside its implementation.

Implementation Of Odisha Urban Wage Employment

The Odisha Urban Wage Employment Plan will be implemented in 114 urban local bodies from April to September in collaboration with the Mission Shakti department. The initiative is expected to benefit around 4.5 lakh urban households. The funding for this program will be entirely sourced from the state budget. Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) will be involved in the execution of various tasks under the scheme. The wages for each beneficiary will be directly credited to their bank accounts on a weekly basis. The projects undertaken will include cleaning of drains, rejuvenation of water bodies, renovation of playgrounds, beautification of parks, construction of toilets, and tree plantation.

The Odisha Government has also introduced additional benefits under the Odisha Urban Wage Employment Scheme to support the state's economically disadvantaged communities. A financial package of Rs 2,200 crore has been allocated to help the poorer sections of the state. This includes Rs 1,000 cash assistance for each of the 94 lakh beneficiaries under the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, and Rs 1,500 for each of the 22 lakh construction workers. Additionally, Rs 3,000 financial aid has been provided to each of the 65,000 street vendors across 114 urban local bodies to help them cope with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown.
