Launched by the Kerala state government, this initiative is designed to promote entrepreneurship and innovation within the state. As part of a broader strategy to cultivate a culture of creativity and problem-solving, the scheme aims to ease the financial burden of patenting by covering the costs of patent applications filed through registered patent lawyers, starting from November 9, 2015. The Kerala Patent Support Scheme offers significant benefits to innovators. The program provides financial assistance of Rs. 2 Lakhs for each Indian Patent and Rs. 10 Lakhs for each International Patent.

However, the scheme does not cover certain expenses. These include the costs related to provisional patent filings, patent search, drafting and filing procedures, claims preparations, fast-tracking fees, prosecution of claims, or any legal activities related to appealing decisions from Appellate Authorities who have previously rejected your claims for valid reasons. Additionally, patent renewals are not supported under this scheme.

It is important to note that the scheme exclusively supports patents as intellectual property rights and does not extend to copyrights, trademarks, or any other forms of IP.

The eligibility criteria for the KSUM Patent Support Scheme are as follows:

• Application Date: Only patent applications submitted after November 9th, 2015, are eligible for consideration.
• Business Structure: The business must be a proprietorship or a limited liability partnership (LLP) for new ventures.
• Exclusion of Innovators: Innovators are not eligible to apply for this scheme.
